Why did we choose the name Batea?

We're delighted you asked.

  • Batea is a Spanish word for gold pan, pronounced bah-teh-ah.

  • A batea is a large shallow pan of wood or iron used for washing sand and gravel to recover gold or valuable minerals. We first chose Batea because of its connection with gold panning and the metaphor of coaching as being like gold panning. The gold [potential] is already there, it is the coach's role to sift through the grit and sand to expose it.

  • Bateas are used in areas where there is less water available. Bateas consume less natural resources than other methods of gold panning. This spoke to our own respect for limited resources; money, focus and time and our commitment to deliver without waste

  • BATEA is also an acronym. In medicine it stands for Best Available Treatment Economically Available. In tech circles this has been adopted to become Best Available Technology Economically Available. At Batea Consulting we commit to delivering pragmatic strategies that are aligned to business dynamics, without over-investment.

  • The Batea logo incudes a blue batea as the bottom of the B. Modern day bateas are bright blue. This is for performance not vanity. The bright blue of the pan provides the best colour contrast, which makes the gold 'pop' compared to other minerals, leading to a higher recovery rate.
